For some, fall is a time for apple picking, trick-or-treating, watching scary movies, and enjoying everything pumpkin spiced. Let’s not forget however that it’s also a time to shoe pests away from your home or business.
As much as we all wish pests would hibernate far, far away during the fall and winter seasons, the unfortunate reality is that they don’t.
Among others, some of the most common pests known to show up during the beautiful fall season include mice, stink bugs, flies, and ants. Are we giving you the heebie-jeebies yet? Well not to worry, there are things you can do to keep these less-than-welcome guests at bay:
Rodents such as mice take notice to the weather changing, which causes them to seek out a warm place for shelter. Places where you’re more than likely to find or hear mice are in the walls of your home, closets, pantries, and attics. Basically, wherever there is food or warmth, you will find them. Make sure to take a walk around the exterior of your home and see if any areas stick out to you as a way for these furry pests to get inside. Be mindful of keeping doors shut firmly behind you as you come and go during the next few months.
These bugs enter properties through cracks and gaps. They follow the sensation of warmth and are a downright nuisance. Sometimes, they’re even frightening to find, as you might find them on your draperies, floor, lights, or elsewhere. Before you squash one, however, brace yourself as they give off quite a “stinky” odor. The best option here is to call in a professional extermination company to ensure that your home is properly protected before these nasty insects seek shelter.
Just when you thought ants were only found in the summertime, guess again. Ants, unfortunately, are always around! They make their way inside homes and businesses, sometimes even in colonies, to find warmth from the cooler weather outside. They’ll hide out inside the walls of your home, or underneath a slab of your property’s foundation – which could be especially problematic if you’re dealing with carpenter ants. Make sure that all cracks are properly sealed, store firewood always from the structure and last but not least, make sure that your entire home is kept nice and clean!
Just because you spend more time indoors once the weather changes, doesn’t mean you have to spend it with pests.
