There’s no denying it: summer is upon us and many of us celebrate the season with backyard barbeques and frequent trips to the beach.
Along with summer comes many pest issues, and you should be taking precautions to protect your family against mosquitoes.
Protecting your family from the harmful bites of mosquitoes has never been more important: diseases such as West Nile and Zika are transmitted through mosquito bites putting people everywhere at risk. Even a plain mosquito bite is extremely itchy and uncomfortable and can lead to scarring; the best way to avoid the symptoms is to prevent the bites all together.
Keeping your skin covered is the best way to protect against mosquito bites. Although this isn’t always possible or comfortable on hot summer nights, do your best to cover up. Consider wearing long light pants or a light, thin hoodie when you’re enjoying a bonfire on the beach.
Although chemical repellents don’t usually smell good, they are the best method to preventing mosquito bites. Remember that most repellants are only effective for two hours after they are applied so make sure to reapply consistently.
Nets and Screens
If you like to sleep with your windows open, make sure any holes in your screens are repaired and that there’s no open space between the screen and the window. Use a mosquito net on your back porch, garage, or patio if you plan to spend time out there in the evenings.
If you live in an area that has a high mosquito population, you might want to have the area professionally treated. Contact Blue Ridge Termite and Pest to hear about how we can help you today.
