Managing Insects on Your Indoor Plants

The dark, cold days of winter can be tough on your indoor plants, especially if insects decide to make your plants their winter home! But don’t fret if your plants are plagued with yellow or speckled leaves from the bugs. There are some simple and effective ways to manage the insects.Managing Insects on Your Indoor Plants

Soap and water

Getting rid of the insects could be as simple as using a little soap and water! First, try washing them away with a strong stream of water. You can also use an insecticidal soap or make one yourself using dish detergent and water. Detergent free of additives and perfumes works best. Repeat as needed.

Neem oil

For a larger infestation, try neem oil. Neem oil not only has insecticidal properties but is also a fungicide with systemic benefits, meaning the plant absorbs the neem so it can control insects it doesn’t directly contact. According to the Environmental Protection Association (EPA), neem is safe for use on vegetables and food plants as well as decorative plants.
